About The Ithachords

Formed in 1947.
"The Itha-Kords" were originally presented their charter in 1947. Founding member Fred Asay recalls that the 40-man chapter met “in the old Masonic Temple on Cayuga Street, near the library.” The first annual show, or “Parade of Quartets” as it was then called, played to an overflow crowd in Bailey Hall at Cornell University on May 8, 1948 featuring the Notewasters (Ith.), Hilly City Four (Ith.), Waltones (Walton), Syra-Chords (Syr.), Add-O-Chords (Addison), Melody Mutilators (Roch.), Melody Men (Buff.), Velvetones (Bing.), Westinghouse Four (Pitts.,PA), Withered Four (Patterson, NJ), Balladaires (Jersey City, NJ), and Harmony Flat Foots (NYC Police, Bronx). The Itha-Kords enjoyed tremendous popularity and was very active for fifteen years.

The chorus rechartered in 1967, and again in 1999, only this time as "The Ithaca Men's Barbershop Chorus." A year later the name was changed to "The Ithachords." The chorus has enjoyed a long line of dedicated directors including Frank Howard, Nelson “Ned” Dunham, Ron Clayton, Neil Oxman, John Williams, Dave Lawrence, Don Lebow, and Robert Dietz. Though the names of the directors and the chorus may change through the years, tight four-part harmony is alive and well in Ithaca and will be around for many years.

Members from 1947–2011.
To the best of our knowledge, the following is a list of men who have sung with the chorus. It is compiled from various lists and concert programs in our archives. If you have corrections and/or additional information you would like to offer, please contact us. We are eager to make this list as historically accurate as possible. [ T=tenor, L=lead, b=baritone, B=Bass ]
